Fathomable
The little EV pickup Ford showed us last spring has a name, and that name is Fathom. It also has a price, coming in just a hair under $30,000 when you include destination and delivery—officially $29,945. The Fathom name conveys seriousness in a way that I wouldn’t have expected from what I saw of the cheerful little truck earlier this year.
That said, the price will probably play a bigger role in determining whether the Fathom works for consumers. Every single story you read about this will mention that it’s within $5,000 of Slate’s truck, which is fair; they’re both small, inexpensive pickups. However, they represent very different approaches to that basic brief, with the Slate being relatively spartan as far as creature comforts and the Ford getting the usual raft of Ford features, including the company’s Blue Cruise driver assist system. Ford’s own Maverick will also make an interesting point of comparison. The two trucks are set to be in roughly the same price range and they are about the same size, although they are totally distinct from an engineering and packaging standpoint.
Interested parties can sign up to get Fathom updates now. Pre-orders will start in early 2027 with deliveries planned for later that year.
