About Us

Alloy is a site about car culture. Fernando Pino and Rory Carroll launched it in 2025 with the following post:

“Alloy exists because we think you deserve something better than what you’re getting from most of the internet. If you’ve been on websites, apps, etc, you know it’s bleak out there. We could talk a lot about what’s wrong with digital publishing in general, but let’s talk about what we want to do with Alloy instead. Our working theory is that maybe the internet doesn’t have to be so bleak.

Alloy’s aspiration is to publish stories that deliver real value to you, the reader. They should be entertaining and offer insight and perspective you can’t find elsewhere. They should, in some way, make your life better. The most meaningful experiences I’ve had reading online are the ones that left me with a better understanding of the world and how it works. We’re going to try to do that.

We also want to deliver a constantly-evolving visual experience that’s unlike anything else online. We want you to look forward to seeing our artwork and layouts as much as you look forward to anything else on the site.

Meeting that standard means relying on writers, editors, designers and artists who do their work without the assistance of AI tools. It also means that we’re not running display ads. It’s too boring to get into here, but as far as we can tell, that business model is a big reason why a lot of your favorite websites feel like those stores that are somehow always having a “going out of business” sale. Or maybe they feel like one of those steak chains where every wall and booth is covered in TVs? Maybe both?

We have a business plan for Alloy, and it’s been very well received so far. But what we’re doing hasn’t been done before. It might not work. We don’t have a parent company, so we’ve had to rely on ourselves and our friends to get to where we are now. It’s been a ton of work with no outside influence and minimal outside investment.

So, If the above sounds good to you, the best way to support it is by signing up for a membership. Membership won’t just give you access to our stories, it’ll provide some perks (and merch) that I think you’ll be excited about.

We have big plans for what Alloy will be. With any luck, you’re with us at the beginning of something special.

Welcome to Alloy, we’re so glad you’re here.”
